Ryanair plans to make pilots change holidays

Ryanair plans to make pilots change holidays”

Employee councils liaise with Ryanair on behalf of pilots and staff, as the company refuses recognise unions. Passengers, meanwhile, are reporting problems in gaining compensation, inundating the firm's Facebook page with complaints.

According to media reports, Ryanair had already offered captains a one-off payment of 12,000 pounds or 12,000 euros, and first officers 6,000 pounds or 6,000 euros.

The announcement comes just hours after a letter was sent to the company by a group of its existing pilots, rejecting an offer of a tax-free £12,000 bonus in exchange for working overtime.

Since Mr O'Leary became chief executive of Ryanair in 1994, it has grown rapidly to become the biggest budget airline in Europe - and by far the most profitable.

"We have some goodies to discuss with pilots, but if pilots misbehave, that would be the end of the discussion of the goodies". In the past year, Ryanair has lost 140 pilots to rival operator Norwegian Air.

The airline has hired additional customer service personnel to accelerate the handling of flight change requests and the reimbursement of the passengers concerned.

Ryanair's annual general meeting takes place today against a backdrop of mass flight cancellations and a group of pilots rejecting a proposed bonus scheme to encourage them to give up some annual leave due to them.

"We know that numerous pilots in these holding pools are actually Ryanair pilots waiting for a start date and when they get that start date they will then issue Ryanair with their notice".

Customers have been left angry and in tears as they have been forced to call an expensive premium hotline, jammed with other distressed callers, in order to ask for refunds and new flights home. Some have been unable to return to work after their trips, and cost an unaffordable amount in unexpected hotel bills.

It's also recruited 125 new pilots to prevent further flights being cancelled.

Separately, some Ryanair pilots have spoken to the BBC about a "toxic" atmosphere and how they felt "undervalued".

"The head of the company, Michael O'Leary, openly insults his pilots, and has consistently maintained a policy of heading off any attempt to achieve a collectively bargained contract".
