Clayton Kershaw gave up his first ever grand slam against the Phillies

Clayton Kershaw gave up his first ever grand slam against the Phillies”

Despite giving up back-to-back homers to open last night's game against the Dodgers, the pitcher with an ERA approaching 7 didn't allow any more runs and ended up getting the win against Clayton Kershaw, thanks to an Aaron Altherr hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth.

The schedule said the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers were in town and the game notes said three-time Cy Young Award victor Clayton Kershaw was on tap to pitch, so manager Pete Mackanin continued to operate with the best intentions of the Phillies development in mind: he played the kids.

After 1,917 career innings pitched, only 125 (now 126) home runs allowed in 10 seasons in the league, and a dominant reputation, Kershaw finally let up a grand slam.

Since his return from the disabled list on September 1, Kershaw was sharp against San Diego, shaky against Colorado and so-so against San Francisco before taking on the Phillies, who usually go down meekly against him.

It was the longest scoreless streak against any team over Kershaw's career. I blew it and we lost.

Taylor broke out of his most recent 0-for-15 slump with a little bit of luck from the outfielder guard rail as he hammered the second pitch of the game off the rail in left-center and the ball ricocheted into left field and away from two Phillies outfielders allowing CT3 to easily run around the bases for a leadoff, stand-up, inside-the-park home run. Earlier this season, he gave up home runs in five consecutive starts for the first time in his career and surrendered a personal-worst four in a June 19 game to the New York Mets.

Roberts was quick to defend Clayton Kershaw and for good reason.

"I thought about that right at the start of the inning", Mackanin admitted. He gave up four hits and struck out eight against two walks.

The Dodgers appeared to have regained their equilibrium of late after losing 16 of 17 during a colossal late-season slide. But questions continue to linger around the team.

"He's not quite there yet", Roberts said.

"You can see him feeling for things", Roberts said. We talked about him needing four to six starts to get ready. But there are signs as we look forward to the postseason that he's going to be where he needs to be. He's at four. I definitely know he's trending in the right direction. Tonight, it's one pitch.

But he didn't. And they weren't.
