Congress Is Trying Repeal, Fix And Transform Obamacare At The Same Time

Congress Is Trying Repeal, Fix And Transform Obamacare At The Same Time”

A small group of Republican senators will make a last-ditch effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act before a deadline expires at the end of this month.

Senators Lindsey Graham, Dean Heller and Ron Johnson are the fellow co-authors.

Senator Elizabeth Warren, one of 16 Democratic co-sponsors for Sanders' proposal, told the gathering it was time to go a step beyond Obamacare, the 2010 law officially called the Affordable Care Act that expanded health coverage to 20 million Americans.

The Senate's recently failed repeal and replace bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA), was nearly universally loathed, with only 17 percent approval from Americans. If you want a single-payer health care system, this is your worst nightmare. The bill would block federal funding to Planned Parenthood, which is reimbursed by Medicaid for non-abortion services. The Cassidy-Graham bill faces obstacles including internal divisions among Republicans and a very short window before Congress plans to leave town. But the bill would allow states to obtain waivers exempting them from many of Obamacare's regulations.

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) departs after a classified briefing on the airstrikes launched against the Syrian military, at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, U.S., April 7, 2017.

At least two Democratic senators - Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Tim Kaine of Virginia - have expressed interest in automatically enrolling uninsured Americans in a low-priced insurance plan, a proposal that was included in one Republican plan to repeal Obamacare earlier this year. And Sens. Lamar Alexander and Patty Murray, from the Senate's committee covering health care, are also reportedly working on a bipartisan Obamacare reform bill. The Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson plan is the most viable solution to achieving our health care reform goals by recognizing Obamacare's failed one-size-fits-all approach and returning power to the states. Graham-Cassidy defunds Planned Parenthood and redirects the money to community health centers. Bernie Sanders' single-payer bill, which also was introduced on Wednesday. Elizabeth Warren of MA, have already signed on to Mr. Sanders' bill. "The president has no interest in bailing out insurance companies", he said. Paul. You should trust Matt Bevin to deliver health care, state run health care vs. with Washington run healthcare.

If the plan is to work, it must first get a "score" from the Congressional Budget Office to determine if it would reduce the federal deficit over 10 years.

"There's a lot of fight left in the Republican Party" on repeal, Graham said.

"Looking beyond the partisan rhetoric of the past, we can all agree that issues need to be addressed to strengthen the individual market for consumers", they write.
