Poroshenko calls Saakashvili's breakthrough into Ukraine a crime

Poroshenko calls Saakashvili's breakthrough into Ukraine a crime”

Georgia on December 4 stripped former leader and reformer Mikheil Saakashvili of his citizenship as he had acquired a Ukrainian passport to serve as governor of the strategic Odessa region.

Saakashvili assures that his illegal returning to Ukraine was realized with the help of "hundreds of his supporters", and Ukrainian officials say this stateless person entered the country illegally, and 16 border guards and National guardsmen were injured.

Mr Saakashvili claims, however, that he is being targeted by confectionary billionaire Mr Poroshenko, and is in danger of being deported to his native Georgia to face charges of abuse of power that he says are politically motivated. The woman in charge of the Ukrainian train said she had been ordered by the authorities - she declined to specify whether Polish or Ukrainian - to stop the train leaving until Saakashvili got off. "Instead of this, a crime has been committed, because there is a constitutional principle of inviolability of borders", Poroshenko said.

The return carries risks for Saakashvili, who is stateless.

Poroshenko's office said Saakashvili had failed to deliver change as governor, adding his Ukrainian citizenship was withdrawn because he allegedly put false information on his registration form.

Saakashvili was allowed to pass through the Polish checkpoint at Medyka, before a line of border guards tried to block his approach to the Ukrainian side.

Moscow is not monitoring the border crossings of Saakashvili, Peskov said."The Kremlin has many very serious issues on the agenda, which should be monitored, and we are dealing with this", Peskov told reporters. "There should be direct legal accountability", Poroshenko said, according to the Kyiv Post.

Saakashvili, a disgraced politician, boarded an Intercity train in Poland to travel to Ukraine's Lvov, but the train was delayed "because of a passenger without a right to enter the territory of Ukraine".

Earlier, Georgia sent the Ukrainian Prosecutor General two requests for the arrest and extradition of Saakashvili.

Saakashvili was stripped of his citizenship in July.

"For that I intend to travel around all the regions of Ukraine, to unite as much as possible with people and with different political forces around a shared theme - that we should have democracy and not the diktat of oligarchs".
