Marvel and Star Wars Movies Are Officially Leaving Netflix in 2019”

Iger confirmed Marvel and Lucasfilm movies will move from Netflix to the Disney streaming platform, set to launch in 2019. According to Iger, "We've now decided we will put the Marvel and Star Wars movie on this app as well".

The galaxy far, far away won't be going too far away once Disney kicks up its own streaming service.

The big question now is the fate of the Marvel-Netflix series like Defenders, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, as well as the upcoming Punisher.

The company will also launch its own ESPN video streaming service in early 2018. Shares of Disney were down $3.60, or 3.6%, the worst performer among the Dow's 30 components and slicing about 25 points from the price-weighted gauge. After Iger said the company's earnings will be "roughly" the same as past year, shares for Disney dropped by 2.9%, according to CNBC.

Last month, Disney announced that it would be pulling a number of Disney titles from the Netflix catalog.

In deciding to retain the rights to two of its biggest franchises, including superhero movies like "Avengers" and the annual "Star Wars" sequels and spinoffs, Disney is giving up tens of millions of dollars per movie it now receives from Netflix.

Netflix shares, on the other hand, were not hurt by the Disney news, nor did they see a bounce. The company hopes that its own streaming option will reverse its fortunes, and it's doing everything in its power to make the app a must-have. Disney shares were down almost 3% in midday trading after the news broke, on what has so far been a down day overall for the Dow and S&P 500 indexes. But just because the service isn't launching til 2019 doesn't mean the movies will remain on Netflix until then. However, it appears they've come up empty in such a request, as both MCU and Star Wars movies will leave Netflix by 2019.
