Texans-Cowboys preseason game canceled amid Houston flooding

Texans-Cowboys preseason game canceled amid Houston flooding”

The NFL said it canceled Thursday night's preseason game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texas near Dallas because the Texans will be able to return to their families sooner, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

The Texans might have Thursday night's preseason game moved from NRG, but they expect to host Jacksonville on September 10 as scheduled. According to the report, more than 40,000 tickets had been sold for the game, with proceeds from the sales going to relief efforts in Houston. The team announced on Twitter on Monday that they be donating $1 million to the United Way of Greater Houston Flood Relief Fund.

The Saints went 3-13 in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans on August 29, 2005, but the Saints were unable to play any regular-season games at home after the storm damaged the Superdome.

"There's more important things than football right now", Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee said.

Tickets to the game, which was moved to Arlington from flooded Houston, went on sale at 6 p.m. Tuesday, priced at $25.

The Texans had an opportunity to go home and tend to their families, so that's what they did. So I think it's extremely important that we get home as quickly as we possibly can.

The Texans have been in the Dallas area since early Sunday morning after flying directly from their preseason game in New Orleans. The team had been working out at the Cowboys' practice facility at The Star in Frisco.

Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has embraced a fundraising effort of his own in recent days. Watt was asked if the game could provide a "nice distraction for the people in Houston". It's bigger than a game. "Everybody here is most concerned about their families, friends, the City of Houston". In response, Watt made a decision to help raise money for flooding victims.
