Syria: US aggression on civilians flagrant violation of worldwide law”

The organization said hundreds had been killed since the offensive began to retake the city from the Islamic State in June.

Amnesty International says that hundreds of civilians have been killed in a USA led coalition campaign to oust Islamic State from Syrian city of Raqqa.

The jihadists have lost swathes of Syrian territory to separate campaigns being waged by government forces backed by Russian Federation and Iran, and by the US -backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which is dominated by the Kurdish YPG militia.

Unlike other areas, such as Aleppo, where it has been possible to achieve a pause, he says the United Nations has no contact with Islamic State fighters who are deliberately using the civilians as human shields. She has suggested that, "Things will only get more risky as the battle reaches its final stages in the city center". "More can and must be done to preserve the lives of civilians trapped in the conflict and to facilitate their safe passage away from the battleground". "This region is the location of a concentration of militants from Mosul, the bulk of with is the most combat-capable and well-equipped units of the Islamic State (terror group, outlawed in Russia) who came from Raqqa". And an activist-run group, Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently, recently said it had documented at least 946, according to Reuters.

According to reports UNICEF is receiving from inside Raqqa city, several thousand children continue to be trapped - caught in the direct line of fire.

The Islamic State (IS) is known to have used civilians as human shields and to have shot and killed Raqqa residents trying to flee the city.

But the fighting has proved increasingly bloody for civilians still trapped in Raqa, with one monitor reporting 167 civilians have been killed in coalition strikes in and around the city since August 14.

There are an estimated 20,000 people trapped inside Raqqa, IS' last remaining stronghold and de facto capital in Syria.

Daraiya, west of Raqqa's city centre, is one area that was heavily bombarded by coalition forces, including from 8-10 June. "It targeted a civilian neighborhood and the close-by areas", he said.

SDF forces receive civilians fleeing Raqqa's southern Nazlat a-Shahadah district this week. "We were stuck there... because Daesh [IS] didn't let us leave".

Amnesty said residents had told it that air strikes had hit camps where people had fled the fighting. "It was indescribable. It was like the end of the world - the noise, people screaming". "I [will never] forget this carnage".

"The Government of the Syrian Arab Republic calls on the Security Council to implement its resolutions on the fight against terrorism, especially resolution no.2253, and to immediately stop the crimes by the coalition against innocent civilians in Syria", the Ministry added.

Speaking to reporters in Baghdad on Tuesday, Lieutenant General Stephen Townsend, the commander of the US-led coalition, confirmed that airstrikes in Raqqa city had increased.
