MLB Game Turns Into an All-Out Brawl Between Yankees and Tigers

MLB Game Turns Into an All-Out Brawl Between Yankees and Tigers”

Pitches buzzed heads, tempers flared, fists flew and thumbs were extended.

Count former Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez among the players lashing out against Gary Sanchez's cheap shots during Thursday's brawl between the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees at Comerica Park. Wilson and manager Brad Ausmus were both ejected. "I've seen nothing but great things from him". With two outs, reliever Tommy Kahnle threw behind Miguel Cabrera with what looked to be an intentional pitch.

Yankees reliever Dellin Betances made a decision to counter back, whether you think it is intentional or not, by drilling Tigers' catcher James McCann with a 98mph fastball to the head.

Then the Tigers went for more retaliation, with Alex Wilson hitting Todd Frazier. Ausmus was ejected after that incident. Cabrera barked at Romine and seconds later the two were on the ground with a mass of bodies around them.

The game was finally about to resume when Cabrera stepped toward Romine, and the NY catcher, whose brother Andrew plays for the Tigers, took off his mask.

Ironically, Romine is the brother of Tigers utility player Andrew Romine. Fulmer has a superb command of his pitches and walks a batter only once every five innings (39 BB, 158 innings) he pitches. "I said, 'It is not about you.' Then he pushed me". Kahnle was ejected immediately but that is when the drama started. He said, "I'm not talking to you" and I said 'Oh, wow.' ...

Olney: Baseball must outgrow its old-school violence

"He said, 'You got a problem with me?'" Romine said. The discussion became more animated, and Romine took off his catcher's mask.

Kahnle apparently threw at Cabrera after Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer plunked Gary Sanchez in the fifth inning.

Rockies 3, Royals 2 • Pat Valaika hit a two-run homer with two out in the eighth inning and Greg Holland finished for his 36th save ito snap Colorado's four-game losing streak with a win in Kansas City.

Here's Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who, as you'll see, is displeased on a number of fronts. The Tigers said Fulmer, who recently came off the disabled list with elbow irritation, felt a "zinger" when he released the ball.

"I was in the dugout and I saw Romine rolling on the [ground] with the other guys", Sanchez said through an interpreter. "And he doesn't take that into the offense, and I think that's a key to good hitting and a good professional athlete".

And Girardi may have been right when he termed the umpires performance as a "poor, poor job". Girardi also felt Torres expanded his strike zone in the latter innings.
