OH judge shot in front of Jefferson County courthouse

OH judge shot in front of Jefferson County courthouseā€

An Ohio judge was shot in an apparent ambush-style attack on his way into a local courthouse on Monday morning, according to Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and NBC News affiliate WTOV.

When asked if Richmond was the father of the embattled YSU football player, Ma'Lik Richmond, Hanlin said yes.

Steubenville City Manager James Mavromatis tells WTOV-TV that Bruzzese was talking after being wounded.

Mavromatis said the judge returned fire with five shots, and so did a probation officer following closely behind the judge.

Judge Bruzzese, who has been on the bench at the Jefferson County courthouse since 1998, was airlifted to hospital in Pittsburgh to undergo emergency surgery.

Bruzzese Jr. received medical attention after being shot about 8 a.m. outside the Jefferson County Courthouse in the eastern OH city more than 38 miles west of Pittsburgh. "It was a cold-blooded attempted murder on a judge". The judge was carrying a weapon and may have shot the suspect at least once. And for people who say they're going to retaliate upsets me.

A suspect was fatally shot after opening fire on a judge near a courthouse in Steubenville, Ohio, on August 21, 2017.

The suspect's body could be seen lying next to a auto of a neighboring bank drive-thru.

Abdalla told reporters after Monday's shooting that investigators are familiar with the suspect and are checking to see if he had any connection with the judge.

Sheriff Abdalla said the shooting was a specifically targeted attack on the judge. It's unclear how many shots the probation officer fired.

The suspect's body could be seen lying next to a vehicle at a neighboring bank drive-thru. BCI has assigned its Special Investigations, Crime Scene, and Cyber Units to this investigation. His condition was not immediately clear, Mavromatis added.

This story is developing.
