Premier League clubs in 'advanced talks' to cut short summer transfer window

Premier League clubs in 'advanced talks' to cut short summer transfer window”

"It makes sense and could make clubs more focused to do their deals early, but there will still be a deadline which creates panic", he said.

But Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would still have to fight to keep Philippe Coutinho out of Barcelona's clutches until 11 p.m. on August 31 unless clubs in La Liga were to follow suit and impose their own preseason transfer deadline.

However, the disruption caused by the continuation of the transfer window beyond the start of the season has become so great, and started to affect so many teams, the feeling that something has to be done has begun to take hold.

The EFL Board and its Clubs have previously expressed the opinion that closing the summer transfer window in advance of the season commencing would be an improvement on the current position.

Paul Clement, Swansea City manager, said after Saturday's draw at Southampton: "Our club would support that decision".

"At our managers' meeting at the Premier League last week, we spoke about it".

According to Federation Internationale de Football Association regulations, the transfer window should close by 1 September, or as near as practical if it clashes with a weekend.

"Agents would have to start finalising transfer deals even sooner, ending the short lull in the market that exists now as players and clubs alike assess the market", he says.

The majority of Premier League clubs are reported to be in favour of the change, with Watford among the handful of clubs to oppose it.

"I don't really understand why it goes to the end of August". This would still allow for a Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona move, for example, but not for Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City or Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool.

The January transfer window would not be affected by the proposed changes. Will it be beneficial to the Premier League if they had a separate deadline from the rest of Europe?

Other teams in Europe, including those in Spain and Italy, would still be able to sign players from the English teams, in line with their own league's deadlines.
