Rescuers pull out 6 bodies after landslide hits north India”

The state government said that the Katra-bound bus had a total of 8 passengers, of which 3 were killed and five rescued.

Shimla, India | At least six people are dead and dozens more missing in the northern part of India, after a landslide resulted in two buses on a mountain road to the precipice, said Sunday the authorities.

As per the last reports, another bus that rolled down into the gorge was still not traceable and all out efforts were on to remove the debris to locate the buried passengers. The landslide swept away the road and the buses for nearly 800 meters into a gorge.

The teams of NDRF, Army, Police and Home Guards have been deployed in the operation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the deaths "Pained by the loss of lives due to landslide related accidents in HP's Mandi district".

Mandi Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam told reporters that the death toll is likely to increase.

Only 12 bodies have been recovered so far after daylong rescue and joint search operation carried out by the administration, police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), army and locals.

Rescuers are desperately searching for survivors but have already confirmed at least 46 people have been killed.

Five of the injured have been admitted to the Jogindernagar hospital.

As per latest reports, two buses are feared to have been washed away in the landslide. My condolences with the families of the deceased, ' the PM said in a tweet. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who visited the spot and announced Rs 5-lakh compensation for the kin of the deceased, said the tragedy was "unprecedented".
