'It was pretty crazy': Passenger opens aeroplane door and jumps out”

The young man opened the emergency door and jumped out of a plane that has just landed at the airport in San Francisco awaiting permission to move to the terminal, representatives of the airlines.

At about 2:30 p.m., a Copa Airlines flight from Panama City was waiting to taxi to an arrival gate when the teen opened an overwing emergency exit got down to the tarmac.

The teenager, an American traveling alone, according to a police statement, ran across the airfield and was caught by a construction crew until San Francisco officers arrived.

The boy, identified as a US citizen, was nervous and jittery during the seven-hour flight, reports said. The teen was not injured in the incident.

"We just landed and then I hear some people scream ... like, 'No!'" 11-year-old passenger Andrea Sepulveda Guzman told CBS News.

Copa Airlines said in a statement that over-wing emergency exits are created to be opened by passengers after the plane reaches a lower altitude to allow for an evacuation in case of an emergency.

Passengers said the teenager seemed fidgety and anxious throughout the flight and that he had acted very quickly, making it hard to stop him, according to the Associated Press news agency. Relay the message back.

"They put one of the stewardesses to block it so no one would fall out of there or leave", he said.

Passenger Isaac Rodrigues said they were all told to remain on the plane for over an hour as police dealt with the situation.

Copa Airlines said that an investigation is under way and that the airline is cooperating with authorities.
