Trump names John Kelly as White House chief of staff”

From his candid and sometimes foul language to his disgust for Washington politics and his disdain for the press, the retired Marine Corps general fits the president's mold.

For one thing, Priebus was among the advisers who had to persuade Trump not to drop out of the presidential debates.

"I have been fortunate to have served my country for more than 45 years - first as a Marine and then as the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security".

The next month, after a lot of lobbying by Priebus, Trump agreed in September 2015 to sign a pledge declaring that if he were to lose the Republican primary election he would not run as an independent.

"So, back in my neighborhood in Boston, a working-class neighborhood, when you got your draft notice, you went down, and you took your draft physical".

Priebus was head of the Republican National Committee before joining the White House as chief of staff. He also pledged to continue to support Trump's agenda. Also attending was Steve Bannon, Trump's chief strategist.

Chief of staff Reince Priebus was sacked after being made the subject of a foul-mouthed tirade by the newly appointed White House communications chief Anthony Scaramucci. "He has been a true star of my Administration", Trump said of Kelly in a series of tweets Friday. He is a Great American", Trump tweeted, "and a Great Leader. So I'm happy for him. Trump had focused on him in recent days, telling those close to him that he believed military discipline was what his administration needed.

In the same interview, he also defended the president on Russian Federation, particularly a report that indicated White House Senior Adviser Jared Kushner had proposed a secret communication channel with the Kremlin so that discussions before the inauguration could not be detected.

Priebus' hold on the White House job has always been in question, more so this week after Trump's new communications director badmouthed him to a reporter for the New Yorker. While serving under President Obama, Kelly became an outspoken advocate for greater efforts to secure the southern US border. Press secretary Sean Spicer was reportedly upset about Scaramucci's hiring - Spicer had handled many directoral responsibilities himself - and resigned as a result.

As for Kelly, until now, he was US Secretary of Homeland Security, nominated by Trump on December 2, 2016. "I used to think, when I'd go to all of my trips up to Bethesda, Walter Reed, I'll go to the funerals with the secretaries of defense, that I could somehow imagine what it would be like", Kelly said. He equates leaks, which have plagued the administration, with treason and knows how to work the halls of Congress, which the White House has also had trouble doing.
