Captain Marvel Will Be Fighting Skrulls in the '90s in Her Movie”

Captain Marvel is in theaters March 9, 2019.

In fact, fans will remember that back in 2008's Iron Man, Nick Fury told Tony Stark that he wasn't the only superhero around.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also revealed that Captain Marvel will be set in the early '90s, before the Avengers band together. It's unclear if we'll see how he lost his eye or if that's something that'll remain untouched for now, though. What may be the biggest reveal, however, is that the shape shifting alien Skrulls are going to embody Danvers' big challenge and that she's going to be punching many of them in the face, if concept art is to be believed.

What makes the inclusion of the actual comic book versions of the Skrulls such a big surprise here, is that many believed that they had been bundled along with the Fantastic Four cinematic rights owned by Fox. He did reveal this, however: the enemies Captain Marvel will be battling in her titular movie will be the Skrulls.

It will be set in the 1990s.

Comic-Con attendees got the first glimpse of Captain Marvel on Saturday, when concept art for the eponymous film's central character was unveiled during the Marvel Studios panel. Or did something happen to Captain Marvel?

A Captain Marvel film has been in the planning stages for a while now, but during the Marvel panel at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con we received some more information about when the movie will be set and who the villains are. While fans of the decade are probably going to love seeing Brie Larson rock some iconic '90s fashion (please let Carol Danvers be a fan of the grunge-chic look), the announcement does raise some questions.

Captain Marvel now has a 3.72 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating.
