Jaguar E-Pace compact SUV breaks cover

Jaguar E-Pace compact SUV breaks cover”

Stunt driver Terry Grant was behind the wheel for the trick, which was verified by Guinness World Records.

That's right. A Jaguar just made a world record barrel roll jump.

The I-Pace, along with the F-Pace and E-Pace, seem to position the British brand on solid footing.

During an global launch event in London yesterday, the driver took the all-new compact SUV for a 270-degree corkscrew-like spin, careened off a dirt hump, and safely landed. Sleek lights, etched lines in the bodywork and the rear flick across the boot are all taken from the sportscar and makes it stand out clearly next to the existing SUV. The team seems to have taken this claim seriously because you can actually spot a graphic image of a large Jaguar being followed by its small cub on the windscreen.

The E-Pace sits on JLR's LR-MS platform which now underpins the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.

The E-Pace will be the first Jag powered exclusively by the brand's Ingenium family of engines.

At 4.4 metres long, the E-Pace will be one of the shortest SUVs in its class, but Jaguar is promising space for five adults inside, while the in-car 4G wifi will allow up to eight devices to download online content.

Gesture tailgate opening, activity key wristband (where you can safely lock the main key inside the auto should you be unable to carry it, for example while surfing or swimming), and advanced head-up display are also options. To get back in the vehicle all owners need to do is hold the wristband to the top corner of the of the number plate surround.

The E-Pace will be offered with the choice of five 2.0-litre engines, which will span three diesels and two petrols. Power will range between 148 bhp, 177 bhp and 237 bhp on the diesels, while the petrol turbo engines will churn out 247 bhp and 297 bhp of power respectively, with the 297 bhp petrol capable of hitting 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds. The D40 stops the clock in 7.4 seconds and the D180 9.3.

Sales of Jaguars are up 83 per cent year-on-year, driven largely by F-Pace.

He said: "Evoque last year sold 30,000 in the United Kingdom, it was its best ever year and Land Rover is always a good barometer".

The E-Pace was unveiled on Thursday evening at a glitzy event staged at London's Excel exhibition centre. What we tend to do is be more conservative with our volume planning.

From late 2017, the Jaguar E-PACE will be the first vehicle to be produced as part of Jaguar Land Rover's contract manufacturing agreement with Magna Steyr, an operating unit of Magna Inc, in Austria.

Jaguar says the feature count will be high across most variants including - S, SE and HSE trims, while there's the sportier looking R-Dynamic model as well on offer.
