Muguruza faces another Williams final showdown

Muguruza faces another Williams final showdown”

Williams, who reached the final after beating British No.1 Johanna Konta in straight sets, will play No.14 seed Muguruza two years after holder Serena beat her 6-4 6-4 in the 2015 final.

"Of course, I'm excited about being again in another final", the 37-year-old, bidding to become the oldest player to win a Grand Slam in the Open Era, said.

Konta, who will be playing in her first Wimbledon semi-final, is attempting to become the first British victor of the women's singles since Virginia Wade in 1977.

Told she would break into the world's top five on Monday, she said: "I guess it's a nice club to be a part of".

Johanna Konta will almost double her earnings for the year should she secure an historic victory over Venus Williams in tomorrow's Wimbledon semi-final.

Romanian Halep would have become world number one had she beaten the Briton but went down 6-7 (2) 7-6 (5) 6-4.

Should she continue that run with a win on Centre Court tomorrow she will guarantee herself at least £1.1m in prize money - the largest paycheque of her career to date.

Venus, who is bidding for her eighth Grand Slam, broke Konta when the scoreline was 4-4 in the first set and then held serve to clinch the set.

The last time Venus Williams was in the finals at Wimbledon, it was 2009, and she lost to her sister, Serena.

"Well, in years to come, hopefully I've gone further, as well", the 26-year-old Konta said, reflecting on her tournament.

"I've played a lot of finals here".

Konta was playing in the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time. I'm just so happy. I felt my experience helped a lot.

"I don't give myself too much time to dream and more focus on the work". Her opponent only had two break points in the whole match, and didn't take either of them. "I feel like she wants these majors, she'll have an opportunity".

"Obviously it's very short after the match, and I'm a little bit disappointed".

The veteran last triumphed at Wimbledon in 2008, which remains her seventh and final grand slam singles title.

"I couldn't have asked for more, but I'll ask for one more". I just have to be more relaxed and more belief in myself.
