Trump properties, including Las Vegas hotel, hit by credit card breach

Trump properties, including Las Vegas hotel, hit by credit card breach”

Trump Hotels issued a statement to notify customers its own systems were not compromised by the hack. The notification mentioned that an unauthorized party had gained access to the data, dating back to August 10, 2016, and that the data was last accessed on March 9, 2017.

Those include bookings made at the Toronto hotel between November 18 and 21 of last year and at the Vancouver location between November 8 and 19 of last year.

Just last September, Trump's hotels agreed to settle the penalties worth $50,000 aftera series of alleged security breaches compromised payment information to the tune of 70,000 cards, which was said to be accessed in May 2014.

While this incident may fall primarily on the company behind the reservations systems, Trump Hotel guests are not new to data breaches. Sabre Corp. only informed the chain of the hack June 5.

According to the Trump organization, hackers breached Sabre's SynXis Central Reservations system (CRS), which Trump hotels use for centralized guest bookings.

Trump Hotels says that credit card numbers (including expiration dates and security codes) and cardholder names were taken. We understand that Sabre engaged a leading cybersecurity firm to support its investigation. "Sabre indicated that they also notified law enforcement and the payment card brands about this incident".

The chain advised guests to "remain vigilant for incidents of fraud and identity theft by regularly reviewing account statements and monitoring free credit reports for any unauthorized activity".

The hotel is apologizing for the inconvenience. For example, as you may recall from April, InterContinental Hotels admitted that 1,200 of its franchised hotels, such as Holiday Inn, had been also been hacked via malware which stole customer payment card data.

Some customers had their personal information taken from several Trump Hotel locations. But the breach did not affect Trump Hotels' systems.

There's a very interesting discussion going on in the United States right now about whether President Donald Trump and his family have been in touch with Russian government agents presumably tied to Russian hackers.

The attack comes less than a year after Trump International Hotels Management paid $50,000 in penalties to NY state for failing to notify customers immediately of an earlier data breach.
