80 beachgoers form giant human chain to save Florida family from drowning”

Dozens of strangers on a Florida beach formed a human chain to help rescue members of a family caught in a riptide.

AP reported that Roberta Ursrey and her family were enjoying the day at the M.B. Miller County Pier on the Gulf of Mexico when she noticed her sons were missing.

The pair were the first to get stranded, followed by other family members - including their 34-year-old mother Roberta Ursrey - and an unidentified couple who tried to save them but were overpowered by the current.

She told the people that saved her and her family: "I can't thank you enough". "That is when I seen the police truck on the beach. and that is when I knew someone was heart sank", she said. Hearing their cries for help, Ursrey and the rest of her family swam out to rescue the boys but were also overpowered by the rip current.

Jessica Simmons was a bystander on the beach with other onlookers who were all feeling helpless as the group in the water had no immediate help in sight. Ursey referred to those fearless men and women on the beach that pulled them out as "God's angels". "These people are not drowning today, ' she told an Australian newspaper".

As Ursrey and her family attempted to rescue the boys from the current, they became trapped as well.

An estimated 70 people came together to help rescue a Florida family caught in a riptide.

Writing later on her Go Fund Me page, Roberta added: "While out there, my mum had a massive heart attack and actually died on us for a few minutes". The chain eventually reached the family and was able to pull them all to safety.

When Roberta Ursey and her family made a decision to take a quick beach trip, the events that unfolded were a true testament to human compassion in the face of adversity.

People on the beach locked arms and formed a human chain to reach Ursrey and the others caught in the rip current.

They had been treading water for nearly 20 minutes and were getting exhausted, the likelihood of all 10 people drowning growing. "I just wish I could share a picture or video of it. Man it was life changing to witness it (sic)", Jessica wrote in her Facebook post.

All the swimmers were pulled safely to shore, while two were taken to a local hospital for further treatment, according to the police report.

"[Jessica and I] are no Olympic swimmers, not even Coast Guard swimmers but just two average people who spend a lot of time in the water", Simmons said. When a tornado ripped through a neighborhood in Alabama, Jessica Simmons was out in the wreckage with her chainsaw.
