Overwatch Lore Update Teases Doomfist

Overwatch Lore Update Teases Doomfist”

Add to this that last week's PTR update was apparently briefly named the "Doomfist/Summer Games" update, and you can see why players are getting the rumor mill going again. The goal of the attack was to release a very specific person from captivity.

Blizzard released a faux news report on the Overwatch blog yesterday claiming that the character Reaper had sprung aka Akande Ogundimu (aka "Doomfist") from Helix Security International's classified maximum security installation within the in-game Overwatch lore.

The official Blizzard post said: "Information and details of what happened were scarce as has been any news from the installation, said to be a prison for the world's most unsafe threats". However, the terrorist group known as Talon managed to free Akande after a surprise attack seemingly launched by Reaper. Initially, security reported that there were not any passengers on board according to radar scans.

"The craft passed through the range of the installation's defense systems without incident, leading some to believe that Talon has moles within Helix".

"The unidentified assailant easily overcame the Helix security agents, leaving over a dozen dead".

Today there was a post on Playoverwatch.com announcing the involvement of Talon in the latest attack on Helix city.

Blizzard has hinted at Doomfist plenty of times in the past, but this is a pretty significant amount of information to drop on the public about the character for it to not mean something. What abilities do you think he'd have? That seems a bit unlikely given the article took place several months back in the Overwatch timeline.

The report ends by saying Helix has "requested, and been granted, additional funding by the United Nations to cope with rising threats".

Doomfist is easily one of the most highly anticipated characters in the Overwatch universe.

The article confirmed suspicions that Doomfist, out of prison, went and stole the gauntlet from the map Numbani and beat up some OR15 defensive robots in the Numbani airport.

The rumour mill says the gauntlet is so powerful it is capable of levelling skyscrapers.
