Gang-rape survivor attacked with acid for fourth time

Gang-rape survivor attacked with acid for fourth time”

A 35-year-old gang-rape survivor in Uttar Pradesh has been attacked with acid for the fourth time in Lucknow last evening. The incident took place between 8 to 9 pm outside her hostel, suggested the report.

The police said that the victim is now admitted in the trauma centre, in a critical condition.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had visited her in hospital in March and given compensation.

The victim, during the Saturday acid attack, suffered burn injuries on the right side of her face and shoulder.

She was allegedly raped in December 2008 by a man Bhondu Singh.

The woman, a mother of two, is pursuing court cases against two men who had allegedly gang-raped her in 2008.

The latest incident took place on Saturday night near a hostel where she resides.

The incident took place less than three months after the suspected rapists allegedly forced her to drink acid on train while she was travelling from her hometown, Rae Bareli, to Lucknow because she refused to withdraw her complaints against them.

The woman is an employee of a cafe in the state capital run by acid attack survivors. She was then stabbed in 2012 and faced another acid attack in 2013 and in March, this year.

"Ye ghatna sachmuch ghatna hai ya fir ghatna ke naam par kuchh log kewal badnaam karne ki sajish rach rahe hain (Has this attack really happened or are some people hatching a conspiracy to defame the state government)", he said.

The woman is undergoing treatment at the trauma centre in Lucknow's King George's Medical University. Police said the attack happened during the shift change of the two gunners who were assigned to guard the woman. "The victim's family has a long-running dispute with another family in Rae Bareli". The attackers poured acid down her throat and she was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

The woman and her family allege the acid attacks are being orchestrated by people known to the gang-rape accused.

Women Welfare Minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi described the incident as shocking and unfortunate and said action would be taken after the investigation report.

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Juhi Singh on Sunday held the state's law and order responsible for the brutality.
