'Fresher' Froome ready for Tour de France test

'Fresher' Froome ready for Tour de France test”

"I´m really happy here and excited that I´ll be with Team Sky for at least the next three years", Froome said.

In May, Quintana missed out on a second Giro d'Italia crown by 31 seconds to time-trial specialist Tom Dumoulin.

Roglic has won time trials at both the Tour of Romandie and the Tour of the Basque Country so far this year, so comes into the race with a good shot of finishing close to the top spot.

Former world champion Mark Cavendish has confirmed he will be racing in this year's Tour, following a bout of glandular fever, and will hope to add to his record tally of 30 stage wins in the race.

Chris Froome, who is targeting a fourth Tour de France title, has warned that despite under-par recent performances, he is fresher than ever as he embarks on another three weeks on the road.

I don't think this year's course necessarily suits me as well as previous Tour de France courses have.

"Nairo Quintana and Jakob Fuglsang are amongst those capable of challenging the Brit for overall victory but (of the two) only Quintana has shown they can be consistent enough to be called true, tour contenders".

With Eurosport broadcasting every stage of this year's Tour de France live and in full, it's safe to say cycling fans have never had it so good.

Froome is race shy - prior to the Dauphine this season he had had just 19 days in the saddle competitively - but at Team Sky, where everything is tweaked to within an inch of its life, there is method to this potential madness.

Tracking the ride of the eventual victor of the last 10 Tours stage-by-stage and attempting to match their progression against each stage type as it occurs in this year's race - whether hilly, flat, mountainous or time-trial - they reckon they've pinpointed where the Tour will heat up. I think we've got the right team and I'm ready as well to do my best.

With only four summit finishes, it favours long-range attacks and features only two short time trials.

"Today, our followers want to be immersed in the event", said Christian Prudhomme, Director of the Tour de France.

FINISH: Richie Porte of Australia and BMC Racing Team rides towards the finish line of stage twelve of the 2016 Le Tour de France.

"I'd love to be on the final podium but I want to win stages as well but I can not go in breakaways because the peloton would not let me so I would need to have a good day and be the strongest on one of the climbing stages".

"The UK now has some serious strength in depth across all types of terrain, so expect to see GB riders contesting daily wins, especially in the medium mountain stages".

"I think I could be fit enough to ride in the Tour".

Promises to be one of the most action-packed parts of the Tour, with a climb to start the day and then three hors-categorie ascents to follow: La Biche, the brutal Grand-Colombier and the Mont du Chat, before a white-knuckle descent into Chambery.
