Roger Federer beats Alexander Zverev to win ninth Halle title

Roger Federer beats Alexander Zverev to win ninth Halle titleā€

Roger Federer has reached yet another final this year at the Gerry Weber Open and is set to take on rising German Alexander Zverev as both men look to win their fourth title of the year.

He will next head into Wimbledon, which starts on July 3, as the favourite to win an outright record eighth title.

Federer will go for his ninth title in the German city, which would mark the first time he has won a tournament as many times.

The 35-year-old lured Khachanov to the net on several occasions, including at 4-4 in the second set and the Russian dumped a forehand volley into the net to give Federer two break points.

The home crowd tried their best to get behind the world number 12 Zverev, and even though he got on the board in game five, Federer broke again to wrap up the opening set in just 23 minutes.

He and Khachanov, 21, traded breaks in the first two games but Federer grabbed a second one to restore his advantage and clinch the first set on his second set point.

"It was a very good week for me again making the finals here".

The 20-year-old Zverev had no answer to Federer's inch-perfect execution and was broken three times in a lightning-fast first set.

Murray put injury concerns behind him to forge an encouraging run to the semi-finals at the French Open but lost to world No90 Jordan Thompson in the first round of the Aegon Championship at Queen's Club last week.

Federer required just 53 minutes as he destroyed Zverev and will be much fancied to continue his superb form in 2017 when he arrives in Wimbledon as the number three seed. "I think he deserved to win", Zverev said. At 35, the Swiss player became the oldest victor of the grass-court tournament.

"So, I'm happy to react right away and let that be forgotten and actually move on and remind myself I actually can play well on grass".

This is going to be a fun match between these two talented players, as Zverev is growing up before our eyes and Federer is, well, Federer.
