Mark Wahlberg Says Michael Bay Is Key to His 'Transformers' Future

It looks like audiences - or Western ones, at least - may finally be tiring of the Transformers franchise, with the latest instalment Transformers: The Last Knight debuting to a series low at the USA box office, grossing a $69.1 million five-day opening, and just $45.3 million across the Friday to Sunday period. Prerelease analytics expected the film to rake in $70 - 75 million United States dollars in its first five days, although it is now not expected to make $60 million.

Neither is she subjected to inappropriate sexualised jokes, unlike Nicola Peltz, the teenager featured in the previous Transformers movie, Age Of Extinction (2014).

Dergarabedian attributed the film's worldwide success not only to the action sequences, but the casting of Mark Wahlberg-an action movie star-and the fact that much of the film took place in a city in China.

Humans are at war with the Transformers, and Optimus Prime is gone. The Last Knight took in $196.2 million from 41 markets, which is on par with Transformers: Age of Extinction, with China, Indonesia, Ukraine and Turkey all having the biggest ever openings in the Transformers franchise.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" from Paramount and Hasbro is projected to earn $196.2 million by Sunday from 41 global markets. In the United Kingdom, the film is expected to bring in $130 million. Counting the original 1986 "Transformers: The Movie" the sci-fi universe has brought in a total of $1.56 billion so far.

Despite the franchise's mammoth success, Bay, 52, who directed all the films in the franchise, has mentioned at nearly every press event promoting The Last Knight that this would be his final go at the Transformer movies. They've gotten bigger and louder, but not much deeper. And if you've seen any or all of the other four films, you've already seen it.

In a tie for second place, Warner Bros.' "Wonder Woman" and Pixar's "Cars 3" both reported 25.175 million USA dollars for the weekend.

Wonder Woman again had a minimal drop of just 39% its fourth weekend and its total is now up to $318.4 million in North America. Judd Apatow produced the pic, which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. "Wonder Woman" was directed by Patty Jenkins, working from a screenplay written by Allan Heinberg. From a script by Kumail Nanjiani and his now-wife, Emily Gordon, the film draws from their real-life courtship and revolves around a young Pakistani comedian (Nanjiani) and his American girlfriend (Zoe Kazan) who must contend with their cultural differences (and two very different sets of parents) when she becomes gravely ill.

Tom Cruise's The Mummy continues to disappoint at the domestic box office as well with just $64.4 million amassed in two weeks of release. Take a look at the box office estimates for the weekend of June 23, and check back on Tuesday for next week's predictions. Last weekend, the threequel debuted to $53.7 million, a franchise low.
