Trump Lashes Out At Investigators After Reports Of Obstruction Of Justice Inquiry

Donald Trump derided claims of collusion between Moscow and his associates as "phony" on Thursday after reports that the head of a probe into Russia's alleged election meddling is investigating him for obstructing justice. He has already been subpoenaed by the House Permanent Select Intelligence Committee.

Mr. Trump did receive assurances that he wasn't personally under investigation, as fired FBI Director James Comey reiterated in testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee last week.

The interest in Kushner's activities by the special counsel's office is no more extensive than the FBI's interest in his multiple roles on both the Trump campaign and transition team, which CNN reported last month.

The order from the general counsel for the transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is looking into Mr. Trump's words and conduct in the events of recent weeks, marking a stark shift in the investigation that initially was supposed to focus on Russian influence and any connections to the Trump campaign, but not necessarily Mr. Trump himself, the report said.

"It would be standard practice for the Special Counsel to examine financial records to look for anything related to Russian Federation".

Comey told Congress last week that he leaked his memos of his conversations Trump to a friend after a tweet by the president suggested he may have taped the conversations.

"If there was one policy that infuriated the elite, it was his professed hope of improving relations with Russia", Dejevesky wrote about Trump in her opinion piece.

The transition official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss post-election decisions publicly.

Vice-President Mike Pence's office said on yesterday he had hired a lawyer known for defending government officials in high-profile investigations to help him with the Russian Federation probes. In a second tweet, Trump touted his "powerful" presence on social media, despite widespread criticism that his recurring rants on Twitter and other online media have only compounded his legal and political problems.

On Wednesday, Trump's lawyer Marc Kasowitz suggested - without providing evidence - that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had leaked details of the criminal probe.

On Thursday afternoon, Trump sent two tweets attacking his former opponent. "I can go around them". And Democrats and Republicans alike have criticized his use of Twitter, particularly amid the ongoing investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The president tweeted Friday, "After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof".

Trump did not directly address the allegations he obstructed justice - a potentially impeachable offense - neither did he deny he has entered the miniscule ranks of sitting presidents who have become the subject of a criminal investigation.

The Post report cited anonymous sources who were briefed on requests made by investigators.
