Apple To Disallow Custom Prompts For App Ratings

Apple To Disallow Custom Prompts For App Ratingsā€

Apple's newly published update to its App Store policies officially designates tipping to content creators as in-app purchases, with Apple keeping 30 percent of the revenue as commission. I'm equally certain that the app in question will be rapidly removed from the store, along with the developer's account. There's no filtering or approval process for them, so sketchy app developers can pay to have their apps listed high in search results. But what's this? The #10 Top Grossing Productivity App (as of June 7th, 2017) was an app called "Mobile Protection: Clean & Security VPN".

Users won't have to leave the app to give a rating for it now.

Up until now, there were no legal guidelines from Apple regarding the matter. So where developers would need users to constantly re-rate apps over time, now they don't have to because one rating can stick for a long time. So instead of going the obvious route and asking how much storage you have on your phone, I'm going to go a more app-specific way. Putting aside the fact that there are dozens of free alternatives (and Apple plans to add QR code scanning to its camera in iOS 11), a free trial doesn't sound so bad, right?

Tapping a particular subscription will let you modify its length or cancel it altogether, though you'll have access to the subscription's benefits until it expires.

More people are falling for this than you might think, too. Unfortunately, Apple has no filter to sift through search ads as of now.

To be fair, search is a new frontier for Apple. Spirit Realm Games gave a statement to Vice, saying that they saw some Pepe memes and something "clicked", inspiring them to make an innocent game about a "silly and amusing idea" that they could show off to their friends.

According to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, 10.7% of WeChat users are said to use the tip feature, with 37% giving five to 10 yuan a month. It seems like scammers are bidding on many other keywords.

App reviews, which used to take days or even weeks, are often now completed in a matter of hours, with the average wait time being one day, according to third-party data from appreviewtimes.com. So in iOS 11, Apple is introducing not only a built-in review prompt API, but a rule saying that developers can't have a custom review prompt. Because every app in the App Store has to be approved by Apple, curious consumers can download and try out any number of apps without having to worry about malware, adware, or any other type of issue that Apple likes to claim plagues the Google Play Store.

For consumers, Lin suggests reviewing your subscriptions. And, if you do fall victim to one of these apps, obtaining a refund is as confusing as canceling your subscription in the first place.
