Apple's new iMacs have better screens, USB-C, and VR support

Apple's new iMacs have better screens, USB-C, and VR support”

The 21.5-inch iMac will start at $1099 and the 4K 21.5-inch model at $1299. Apple said the computer is the most powerful Mac it has ever built, with the latest and most powerful processors on the market. Every new iMac will also have refreshed graphics, from a new version of the integrated Intel Iris graphics in the base model that is 80 percent faster than the previous version, to the Radeon Pro 500-series with up to 8GB of eDRAM for the high-end 27-inch iMac.

The company's fusion drives are now standard on all 27-inch iMacs.

The MacBook Pro 2017 model is nearly certainly going to be shown, but fans who are looking forward to an external overhaul shouldn't get their hopes up as Apple is likely just going to upgrade the machine's internal modules.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro without TouchBar now starts at Rs. 1,09,900 instead of Rs. 1,29,900, though you get only 128GB SSD storage compared to 256GB earlier.

The entry-level iMac embedded with AMD Radeon Pro 500 will fetch $1,099 which will raise up to $2,299 for the 27.5-inch 5K iMac.

Aaaaand... that's it. Don't expect a retina display, don't expect more storage or RAM.

Hence, what Apple is dubbing as "the most powerful Mac ever" is going to now provide consumers with workstation-like functionality in this upgraded all-in-one system.

iMacs have been updated with more powerful internals and brighter, more colourful screens. However, the CPU's clock speed has been given a marginal increase from 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz, with the same Core i5 Broadwell chip. Nothing to get too excited about, but Apple has been inconsistent with keeping up with the industry, so this is a good step. The device has now been made capable of extensive video editing, machine learning and AR/VR capabilities - thanks to the 22 teraflops of output power.

The iMac Pro is extremeley impressive on paper, but isn't ready for testing just yet.

According to Turnus, with those specs, you could easily "hook up 2 5K displays and 2 RAID arrays".

The iMac Pro's starting configuration will be $4,999 when it goes on sale in December.
