Treasury chief to Congress: Raise debt limit before August

Treasury chief to Congress: Raise debt limit before August”

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin Wednesday urged Congress to raise the debt limit before its August recess to avoid a potential federal government default.

Mnuchin, appearing at a separate hearing on Capitol Hill, said he wanted lawmakers to raise the debt ceiling "before you leave for the summer". "And I can assure you that's a big focus of mine and I discussed it with the president".

When it comes to North Korea, the worldwide community, including the United States, has criticized a number of missile launches and nuclear tests that the Asian nation has carried out since the beginning of 2016, and tightened the sanctions regime against Pyongyang.

His statements followed President Donald Trump's Middle East trip, in which he called on Iran to stop funding "terrorists and militias".

Boeing said in December it would cut 777 output by 40 percent this year under plans that include IranAir's still-tenative order.

IranAir has agreed to buy a total of 200 U.S. and European passenger aircraft.

If the deal between Boeing and the Iranian airlines is scrapped, this could mean a production halt and a loss of U.S. jobs but national security should be more important. All of the aircraft need United States export licenses.

An Airbus spokesman had no immediate comment.

Trump has been a staunch opponent of the Iran nuclear deal as it was negotiated under his Democratic predecessor despite the Republican Party's opposition.

Boeing said it would apply for licenses for the deal. "Unless he was lying to us yesterday, I really felt it was dead on arrival", Chu said.

Today, the Senate Banking Committee will vote on nominations to Treasury positions, including assistant secretary, under secretary for terrorism and financial crimes, and assistant secretary for terrorist financing.

About a third of the Airbus jets, or some 37, also are due to arrive by 2020, including three already delivered.

Iran responded angrily to those sanctions, saying they were "unilateral" and "illegal".
