UPDATE, 2:15 p.m. ET: The official MotoGP Twitter account released an update as of 8 p.m. CET that Hayden was transported to the Cesena hospital for further treatment and possible surgery.

Known as "The Kentucky Kid", Hayden is America's most recent MotoGP world champion, claiming the title in 2006 with Honda.

While various reports of Hayden's condition have circulated throughout the night, statements issued by both his Red Bull Honda World Superbike team gave no update other than that he remains in ICU.

"But my fondest memory of him is when he came to shake my hand after the unlucky Valencia 2015 race, during the victory lap".

Nicky Hayden is in an Italian Hospital after a bicycle crash involving a auto Tuesday.

The Owensboro native now races for the Red Bull Honda Superbike Team in the Superbike World Championship circuit.

"Pulling for you Nicky Hayden get through this my man", Red Bull F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo said. He's receiving medical attention in Italy, and we must now be patient... "All we can confirm is that Nicky was involved in an incident while cycling & has been transferred to a hospital near Rimini for treatment".
