Xi: China to host 2nd BRF in 2019

Xi: China to host 2nd BRF in 2019”

However, India stayed away over concerns for China's plans for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

"Being part of One Belt allows the continent to move to a new platform, through which global collaboration will allow for value-addition, innovation, and increased prosperity", said President Kenyatta.

Pakistan signed new deals with China on Saturday worth almost $500 million ahead of Beijing's worldwide forum on its "Silk Road" trade and infrastructure initiative for Asia, Africa and Europe, the Pakistani government said.

The English-language newspaper China Daily has bombarded social media with quirky videos, including an American father telling his daughter bedtime stories about Xi's programme and children singing, "We'll share the goodness now, the Belt and Road is how".

Guests including Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan were greeted by Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, and posed for a group photo before dinner and a gala performance.

In the communique, China and other nations underlined the importance of expanding trade and investment based on a level playing field.

China touted its new Silk Road as "a project of the century" at a summit highlighting its growing leadership on globalisation, but a North Korean missile test threatened to overshadow the event.

The two-day event is the highest-level forum on the Belt and Road Initiative since the Chinese president first raised the concept in 2013.

The Belt and Road should be built into a belt and road for peace, as the pursuit of the initiative requires a peaceful and stable environment, Xi said as he addressed the opening of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation on Sunday in Beijing.

The Chinese government is investing tens of billions of dollars as part of an ambitious economic plan to rebuild ports, roads and rail networks.

Governments from Washington to New Delhi worry that Beijing is using the initiative to build its own political influence and erode theirs, or that China might undermine environmental standards or leave poor countries burdened with debt.

"We need to seek win-win results through greater openness and cooperation, avoid fragmentation, refrain from setting inhibitive thresholds for cooperation or pursuing exclusive arrangements and reject protectionism", he said. "Instead we will create a new model of cooperation and mutual benefit", Mr Xi said. It envisions two components: the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road that are expected to cover more than 60 percent of the world's population and more than one-third of the global economic output.

"Countries and regions related to the Belt and Road have become an important destination for China's investment, equipment, technology and services", Ning said.

The project " a belt road" is the reflection of our quest for a common development.

Indian foreign ministry spokesman Gopal Baglay has said India could not accept a project that compromised its sovereignty - an oxymoronic statement considering India wants to do exactly what China is doing, except it does not have the resources or capacity to take on a global trade project. "It is really grounded in certain objectives such as economic and financial realities", Rehman said.
