Alonso hit by Honda failure on FP1 outlap”

While speaking ahead of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, Formula One driver Fernando Alonso said McLaren has until October to convince him that the team can put forth a competitive auto for the 2018 season.or else he'll start talking with other teams.

The latest blow comes a day after Alonso issued an ultimatum: either McLaren gives him a competitive auto by October of he will look to change teams or even consider leaving F1.

"Obviously, it's not an ideal start to the weekend as we completely missed the first practice session because of an engine problem", said Alonso.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who won the race previous year, and Daniel Ricciardo were next, within 1.6 seconds of Hamilton. "But I am pretty sure we keep learning from the things that are happening to the vehicle", Alonso said.

Alonso is out of contract at the end of the season and has said his future whereabouts would depend on who could offer him a winning auto. With two wins in four races, Vettel has a 13-point advantage over Hamilton in the standings.

"You're racing in the most important category in the world and then you're not doing Monaco to do another race?"

Alonso and McLaren are having a wretched 2017.

"That is the plan, but I can not promise it yet", said Honda's Yusuke Hasegawa.

"As I said at the start of the year, this is my last season with the contract that I have at the moment, so I will have to think after the summer". I believe that on other weekends we have had trouble-free Fridays and Saturdays only to not finish the race on Sunday.

Hamilton gave Mercedes its 19th pole in 20 races, two weeks after F1 leader Vettel had broken its run at the Russian GP in a one-two with Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

If not, the two-time former champion says he will be looking for another team, or even to abandon F1 altogether.

But in what is now his third season with McLaren, Alonso has failed to score a single podium position. "I just know the end result".

Max Verstappen, the 2016 victor at a record age of 18, and fellow Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo will start the race from fifth and sixth on the grid. "Going from corner to corner the vehicle felt different".

Practice will resume on Saturday before qualifying for Sunday's race.
