Former Punjab AAP convener Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi announces resignation”

AAP's outgoing convener - Gurpreet Singh Waraich also questioned the "urgency" in appointing Mann as the new state chief and asked under "what pressure" this decision was taken.

Non-Resident Indian (NRI) convenors and other office-bearers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have shot off a letter to national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, hoping to avoid the appointment of AAP Member of Parliament from Sangrur constituency, accusing Mann of being self-centric and rejecting any move to appoint him. "But now it has become hard for me to continue and so I resign from its primary membership", said visibly emotional Waraich, who was appointed as the convener past year after Sucha Singh Chhotepur was ousted over bribery allegations.

Asked how he saw Mann as the new state party chief, Ghuggi took a jibe saying, "When someone's eyesight is not right and he is asked to drive a bus then accident will certainly take place".

He said the risky politics being played by Kejriwal in Punjab has also been exposed by Ghuggi.

A few leaders in AAP's Punjab unit are upset over Mann's elevation.

Ghuggi said he had resigned as the AAP had ditched its ideals. "They call this election process, this is not election process it is a farce", Ghuggi said.

At the same time, Bhagwant Mann has expelled Upkar Sandhu (who was the party candidate for Amritsar Lok Sabha by poll) from AAP for anti-party activities.

"I think with election conducted with pick and choose policy, injustice has been done to Punjab and Punjabiyat", Ghuggi said adding that the volunteers were not involved. "They should have been included in the selection process", he said adding that AAP was deviating from its principles.

Ghuggi, however, didn't rule out the possibility of joining another political party.

Waraich said that his opposition to the appointment Mann was not about him individually but about the manner in which it was done.

"But one person is facing a personal problem... We are expecting that some leaders will join the party soon", Dr Rajkukar Verka said. The resignation of Khaira was in protest for Mann's selection. Both Khaira and Ghuggi are unhappy at Bhagwant Mann's election as state convener.
