UK's Labour Party stung by early leak of election platform

UK's Labour Party stung by early leak of election platform”

With various theories proffered on why the document was leaked, ranging from an attempt to undermine Corbyn to a deliberately-designed ploy to strengthen his hand, one ex-spokesperson blames Labour HQ for the unplanned release - citing a "torturous" relationship between the party's office and the leader's staff. The unveiling of the parties' manifestoes - containing solid promises on which they can be held to account - is a centerpiece of every British election.

Giles Wooltorton was injured by the left wheel of the auto carrying Mr Corbyn to the meeting.

The leaked manifesto claimed Labour will cut tuition fees and nationalise energy companies, rail companies and Royal Mail.

Earlier this week, United Kingdom media reported that the ruling Conservative Party, unlike Labour, was likely to maintain its "tens of thousands" immigration target in the new manifesto.

He also said the Conservatives' record on the NHS "shames" Britain, adding that Mrs May risks "leaving the country more socially divided than ever unless there is a change in policy".

Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May has called an early national election scheduled for June 8. It was yet to be signed off by most senior party figures, including the shadow cabinet and Labour's national executive committee. Later, a vehicle carrying Corbyn appeared to hit the foot of a television cameraman outside a meeting of party officials in central London.

The injured cameraman, Giles Wooltorton, was treated on the street and later taken away by ambulance, according to a Reuters photographer.

Scotland Yard is now facing an investigation after it emerged an officer from the Metropolitan Police's royalty and specialist protection unit was driving the auto.
