Road show: Most NFL teams interested in hosting draft

Road show: Most NFL teams interested in hosting draft”

The first two days of the 2017 NFL Draft certainly did not lack intrigue or surprises.

I'll analyze each pick, make predictions and share highlights as we go.

The current draft format began in 1967 and had 10 players selected in both the 1972 and 1974 drafts, though there were 12 rounds at that time. The Titans rounded out the top five with Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis.

While it does make for great conversation during the summer months as NFL fans wait for training camp to hit, the truth of the matter is that no one knows if the overall first pick this year (Myles Garrett selected by the Cleveland Browns) will turn out to be any better than the actual last player selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, Chad Kelly the former Old Miss quarterback. The SEC finished with seven of the top nine. I prefer NFL Network, but given that I spend more time on Twitter than watching the television screen, I suppose it's not too big a deal what is on.

The Longhorns have particularly felt the impact.

With 11 players taken in the 2017 NFL Draft, the MI football team set the program benchmark for players selected in a single draft in the modern draft era. In fact, Cincinnati selected four such players with their first four picks.

Aside from Garrett, safety Jabril Peppers (25th pick), tight end David Njoku (29th pick), and quarterback DeShone Kizer (52nd pick) will try to help Cleveland achieve success.

Round 3 - Jordan Willis, OLB, Kansas State (Bengals, No. 73); D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas (Texans, No. 89); Rasul Douglas, CB, West Virginia (Eagles, No. 99).

Perhaps the biggest steal in National Football League history, or all of sports for that matter, Tom Brady has proven the entire draft system wrong as he has flourished to become the greatest quarterback in the game.

Blue-blood programs Nebraska, Texas and Penn State each had only one player taken.

Mack Hollins, WR, No. 118 pick to Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in a second-round rematch of the NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference semifinals against a Toronto team that is better than the one that took the Cavs to six games previous year. Cook is a big-play guy and the Vikings, of course, let go of Adrian Peterson this year. That includes a fourth round pick, two fifth and sixth round picks, and one seventh round pick.

So, while it is natural to be excited for the first round talent, don't sleep on late-round talent.

Predicting that would occur entering the first round would have been bold, indeed, given that the class of 2017 has been universally lauded as loaded with top prospects on defense, not offense.

After being limited to just three games in 2015, Wilson set career highs for solo tackles (45), total stops (54), tackles for lost yards (2.5), interceptions (five), interception return yards (58), defensive touchdowns (one), passes defended (10) and fumble recoveries (two) during the 2016 season. The only positive of the NFL Draft for the conference is that it's been about half a year (the failure-to-launch expansion boondoggle) since it was college sports' Comedy Central.
