Police said they believe Selis and at least one of the party-goers lived at the apartment complex.

"I heard people screaming", he said.

One witness told CBS San Diego affiliate KFMB-TV the gunman was drinking beer as he was firing. He said that all four of the wounded people he personally saw were Black, but noted that more people were injured and ran away.

The witness said he saw officers approach the pool area. "He looked pretty relaxed", he said. The suspect then pointed the gun at the police before being fatally shot. He did not recognize the suspect.

The shooting was reported shortly early Sunday evening after at the complex on Judicial Drive near Golden Haven Drive. Detectives have not determined the motive for the shooting.
