Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select O.J. Howard”

Early Wednesday morning ESPN's football insider Adam Schefter reported the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are interested in trading out.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Bucs opted for Alabama tight end O.J. Howard over Cook because "the most impressive player thus far in training has been Doug Martin". During the 2014 NFL Draft, Licht and the Buccaneers gave up a fifth-round pick and a 2014 seventh-round pick to the Bills in exchange for the 149th overall selection.

It should be noted that Howard's two best games with the Crimson Tide came when they mattered most - against Clemson in consecutive national championships.

"First day of Senior Bowl practice in pads, Jason and I were sitting on the 35-yard line and putting on a clinic out there", Koetter said. "I like what I saw of him".

Longtime NFL receivers coach Jerry Sullivan, who retired in January after 25 years in the NFL, doesn't like to project how well a player will fare in the NFL, telling Omnisport, "you have to be careful about being a crystal ball guy", but he made an exception for Alabama tight end O.J. Howard. His size (6-6, 251) and speed (4.51 in the 40) make him an impossible matchup in a league that is favoring tight ends more than ever.

While tight end wasn't the biggest need entering the draft for the Bucs, they don't have a lot of depth at that position. "He's going to be a good pro". However, he did thrive in winning time, making big plays during Alabama's last two trips to the College Football Playoff. "I would venture to say he got better".

ESPN reported Wednesday that the Buccaneers are talking with at least three other teams about moving back in, or maybe even completely out of, the first round.

Howard was used mainly as a blocker in Nick Saban's run-oriented Alabama offense. "You have to be able to block and make plays in the run game to allow the passing game to open up".

"I'm just coming in with a humble mindset, working hard, learning the scheme, the playbook, but I definitely view myself as a starter", Evans told Friday night. So I really take pride in that.
