Prominent firm to defend 'Bachelor' star in Iowa crash case

Prominent firm to defend 'Bachelor' star in Iowa crash case”

Now, cops want to know if Soules was distracted when the accident took place that ended in the death of 66-year-old farmer Kenny Moshler. His appearance drew attention to farming life and some of the struggles facing rural Iowa.

"This story is going to spread like wildfire around here and probably all over because of who he is", Mary Jo Brown, Arlington's city clerk, told the Des Moines Register.

He reportedly called 911 after the crash and checked the victim's pulse before leaving the scene, according to authorities.

Soules makes initial call to 911.

Soules was friendly with Mosher, the man who was killed in the accident, RadarOnline.com reported.

In the call, Soules is breathing heavily, apparently emotional and seemingly on the edge of tears as he tells the dispatcher what happened in the collision between his truck and the tractor, telling the operator, "There's no address". Soules asked the dispatcher. "I feel a pulse, yeah he's got a pulse", he said. The operator then told Soules that law enforcement and medical were on their way to the scene.

Authorities say Soules left the scene in another truck - it's unclear who was driving - before emergency responders arrived. Soules had his cell phone with him and police believe he called a friend or family member to pick him up.

Due to the nature of the pending charges, neither Soules nor his counsel will be making any statements at this time.

Alcohol was found at the scene and investigators are trying to determine whose it was and whether it or speed were factors in the crash.

Soules, 35, was arrested in Aurora early Tuesday, about five hours after the crash, and was booked into the Buchanan County Jail on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.

However, he was released the following morning, Tuesday, after posting bail.

A preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. He said it took several hours for officers to write a search warrant application and get a judge to approve it, allowing them to enter the home to arrest him.

The Associated Press contributed to this article. He was charged with other alcohol violations and minor crimes during his 20s. "He was devastated to learn that Kenneth Mosher, the other person in the accident, passed away", a statement via his rep, Stan Rosenfield, read. Soules and his family request that their privacy and the privacy of Mr. Mosher's family is respected. "His family was most important to him, especially his grandchildren".

Greenville Co. Schools say Mauldin High School say they were on partial lockdown as a precaution on the advice of Mauldin Police. This sadly isn't the first time the Bachelor star has left the scene of an accident. He proposed to Chicago fertility nurse Whitney Bischoff at the end of his season, but their relationship ended shortly after the show.

Soules had used his reality TV platform to travel Iowa and the Midwest advocating for agricultural issues, including ethanol and renewable fuels.
