United States troops 'MAN WEAPONS' during close encounter with Iranian warship

United States troops 'MAN WEAPONS' during close encounter with Iranian warship”

Iran views the USA presence in the area as a provocation and the Revolutionary Guard occasionally fires missiles or rockets near us ships.

The Iranian vessel approached the USS Mahan with its weapons manned, prompting the USA destroyer to alter its course, sound a danger alarm, fire flares, and man its weapons.

The Mahan attempted bridge-to-bridge communication with the Iranians but got no response.

The Iranian vessel later sailed away.

Tehran has not made any comment about the incident which is reported to have taken place on Monday. The paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) finally turned away and sailed off after the warning shot was sacked, ABC News reports.

Early suggestions reveal the two ships did not come any closer and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard ship did not fire warning shots. The Iranian military boats would not alter their course even after multiple radio calls, flares, and smoke bombs were used to deter it from continuing its approach, according to a Reuters report.

The "guided-missile destroyer USS Mahan (DDG 72) had an unprofessional interaction with an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) vessel while transiting the worldwide waters of the Arabian Gulf, April 24", the Naval Forces Central Command spokesman said of the Monday encounter.

"Since the nuclear deal with world powers, the hard-line Revolutionary Guard has stepped up its encounters with the Americans", McConnaughey added. The Navy recorded 35 instances of what it describes as "unsafe and/or unprofessional" interactions with Iranians forces in 2016, compared to 23 in 2015. Including the latest incident on Monday, there have been seven so far in 2017, Lt McConnaughey said.

This latest incident is among a growing list of Iranian provocations against United States forces, mostly maritime, in the region.
