Stoke game a 'must-win' for Swansea in relegation fight”

Swansea City ended their six-game winless run in the Premier League as Fernando Llorente and Tom Carroll sealed a 2-0 win over Stoke City.

Swansea were given a huge helping hand when, with the score at 1-0, Marko Arnautovic blazed his 69th-minute penalty high over the crossbar and into the disbelieving Stoke supporters behind the goal.

The Tigers are two points ahead of Swansea City with five games remaining, meaning all they have to do is match the Welsh club's results from now until the end of the season to stay up.

Swansea face Stoke on Saturday back in the bottom three and two points adrift from safety with five games to play.

"We've been awful on the road but our home form puts us in a position where it's still in our hands and while that's the case, we've got massive belief in the manager (Marco Silva)", he said.

"Myself, the staff and the players have looked a lot at all the games that have gone by", Clement said.

"I knew at half-time it was 0-0 at Hull and they were down to 10 men". "I thought it was a must-win game and it was absolutely right".

"We have to concentrate on our jobs".

Swansea are fighting for their lives now and are in desperate need of three points to aid the Welsh team's chances of avoiding demotion to the Championship.

The game started slowly for both sides but Swansea had more of the ball. A solitary draw on the road from their last six games has had them facing some long journeys back to Humberside, but it will be their showings in front of their own fans which save their season, should it happen.

"We made it hard for ourselves".

"We know that we've not done well enough, recently. In the event that you are away you 've got to be sure to are in the match and don't surrender early which is really what we did", Hughes told BBC Sport.

Ayew then almost got a third for Swansea, breaking free on the counter but Butland was there again to keep Stoke in the game. "He said after the game he didn't feel at his best, and that's obviously had an impact on the way he played".
