Japanese prime minister warns of possible sarin missile strike by North Korea

"There is a possibility that North Korea is already capable of shooting missiles with sarin as warheads", Abe told a parliamentary panel on national security and diplomacy. It's rumored that the "important event" being held in Pyongyang may be North Korea's sixth official nuke test and another step towards the countries nuclear capability expansion. While the north's continued development of nuclear warheads has been a top issue of concern, Abe stressed that the country already had the ability to fire a sarin-tipped missile at Japan. Outwardly, there are few signs of concern in North Korea despite the political back and forth. It has a particular resonance with the public in Japan because it was used in a terrorist attack on the Tokyo subway by the doomsday cult group Aum Shinrikyo in 1995. In response, the general staff of the North Korean armed forces threatened to launch a strike against United States military bases in Japan and South Korea, as well as the presidential residence in Seoul in case of U.S. aggression. But recently, Abe's ruling party has proposed that Japan should bolster its missile defense, including upgrading the capability to shoot down an enemy missile and acquiring the capacity to attack the base it was sacked from. He did not say where he obtained the information, said the reports.

Abe was responding to a question about Japan's readiness at a time of increased regional tension.

"Innocent citizens, including babies and children, fell victim in Syria", Abe said.

North Korea has launched several missile tests this year, the latest on April 5 when it fired a ballistic missile into the sea off its east coast. His government has lobbied to change the constitution to allow Japan to strike overseas targets.
