Far-Right Conspiracy Theorist Alex Jones Is 'Playing a Character,' Says Lawyer

Far-Right Conspiracy Theorist Alex Jones Is 'Playing a Character,' Says Lawyer”

But a lawyer for Jones recently said the conspiracy theorist is merely playing a character when he speaks via his InfoWars channels.

His ex-wife, Kelly, from whom he has been divorced since 2015, wants sole or joint custody of their three children. Rather, attorney Randall Wilhite told a judge during a pretrial hearing that Jones is a "performance artist", according to a report in the Austin-American Statesman, which is covering the lengthy (and expensive) custody dispute.

That said, Jones has become a notable figure in conservative media, and if his own attorney describes his client as "a performance artist" - effectively characterizing Jones' freakish persona as a fictional "character" - that's an important acknowledgement for the public to be aware of.

The Jones custody battle will be decided by a jury.

The Pizzagate theory theorized - without any evidence - that top Democratic officials were involved with a satanic child pornography ring centered around a Washington, D.C. pizza restaurant.

Jones has always been criticized for both the coarse language and conspiracy theories that have been a staple of his show for years. Nothing is sacred: This is a man who has claimed that the Newtown school shooting was a hoax staged to let the government take people's guns.

"He's not a stable person", she reportedly told the court. "When I say, 'I'm going to kick your ass, ' it's the infowar". (Caps original.) If he's ever said "j/k guys, you don't think I actually believe any of this stuff right?", he's buried it pretty deep.

He's also gained a big fan in President Donald Trump.

With the dueling opinions about who the REAL Alex Jones is, it appears that a jury will make the ultimate decision on that truth.

Infowars.com, for instance, had 7.6 million global unique visitors from March 16 to April 14, according to Quantcast, which measures web audiences.

In December 2015, Trump phoned in to the Alex Jones Show for a 30-minute interview. "In fact, more people follow Alex than watch Fox News or CNN".

Then, they played a video of a conversation between Jones and Republican strategist and Trump associate Roger Stone that, according to the Statesman, "quickly escalated into an expletive-studded, gay-bashing rant by Jones directed at Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee investigation of Trump's Russian Federation ties".
