Pearl Jam, Tupac, Yes, Journey to be inducted into Rock Hall

TMZ reports that members of Journey have confirmed that Steve Perry will join them onstage tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn when the band are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Letterman liked to play the slightly clueless goof when it came to music, and if you'd told me in 1992 that he'd be name-dropping Seattle scene pioneers Mother Love Bone at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, I'd have been astonished to hear he'd ever heard of them.

"I can't begin to tell you what an honor and a privilege it is for me to be out of the house", he said.

"I can't begin to tell you what an honor and privilege it is for me to be out of the house", he deadpanned after a almost minute-long ovation from the audience at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

While we announced a while ago that friend of the band, and frequent collaborator, Neil Young was set to induct the group into the Rock Hall Of Fame, the Canadian music legend sadly had to pull out of the ceremonies.

Letterman added: "The nice thing about knowing them for as long as I've known them - I know them as friends as well as cultural icons".

He also shared a personal story about how Eddie Vedder gave his young son Harry a small guitar and wrote him a letter saying that he'd buy him a bigger one if he learned just one song.

Vedder also thanked his daughter's favorite artist, Chance the Rapper, for the charity work he's done in Chicago, the hometown of his favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.

Folk great Joan Baez joked about how much of the audience might not know her, talked social activism and harmonized with the Indigo Girls and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

The show will air April 29 on HBO.

Also paying tribute to the rapper was Alicia Keys, who led a piano medley of "Ambitionz Az A Ridah", "I Ain't Mad At Cha", and "Changes", as well as Treach (from Naughty by Nature), YG and T.I., who closed with a rendition of "Keep Ya Head Up".

Perry's last full concert with Journey was in 1987.

"You put us here, we would not be here had it not been for you", Perry said, thanking his fans.

Rocker Lenny Kravitz performed moving renditions of "When Doves Cry" and "The Cross" as a tribute to the late Prince, who died last year shortly after last year's ceremony. "I've never seen a band like that in my life". While we hope he's better and nailing his Neil Young look soon, Young's absence meant that David Letterman stepped in to do the honors. "That's Arnel PIneda. To arnel, I love you".

"Hello, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!"
