How Trail Blazers' Moe Harkless made the easiest $500K of his life

How Trail Blazers' Moe Harkless made the easiest $500K of his life”

Portland Trail Blazers forward Maurice Harkless may want to think twice about shooting three-pointers during Wednesday's regular-season finale against the New Orleans Pelicans at Moda Center. Would you have done what he did or would you have hoisted some three-pointers?

Harkless was obviously very close to the threshold needed to activate the bonus, so he chose to play it safe. Again, he rose up for three. But the shot missed, and lowered Harkless's three-point shooting percentage to 35.2. And the margin was three points.

In fact, Harkless went the entire four games without attempting a 3-pointer and said he was aware of the bonus for about a month. The box score for the Blazers' 103-100 loss to the Pelicans shows Harkless took six shots.

Moe Harkless had a bonus built into his contract that paid him an extra $500,000 if he shot 35 percent from three-point range this year. The New York City native said he had been aware of the bonus for about a month, and after averaging almost three 3-point attempts per game, Harkless took only 30 over the final 21 games. The regular season is over now.
