Apple Reportedly Moving to its Own iPhone Power Management Chips in 2019

Apple Reportedly Moving to its Own iPhone Power Management Chips in 2019”

The Lampe investor note claims that Apple is looking to control more of its iPhone production by stating "There is strong evidence that Apple is developing its own power-management integrated circuits and intends to replace the chip made by Dialog at least in part,".

Engineers from Dialog have reportedly been switching over to Apple over the past year, a source said, according to Bloomberg.

Shares of Anglo-German manufacturer Dialog Semiconductor (XETRA:DLG-DE) fell 20 percent on Tuesday morning after a financial analyst warned the company may lose a contract with the USA tech giant Apple.

Apple and Dialog did not immediately comment. This has caused the stocks of Dialog to plunge, as the company makes around 74 percent of its sales come from Apple.

The news comes after Apple chose to drop Imagination Technologies as a supplier, as the company was planning to design its own graphics chips. There are still some analysts who are optimistic about Dialog's future, even as its biggest customer seems ready to pull away. Due to the close nature of Dialog's relationship with Apple, it isn't unusual to see a steady flow of employees to and from the two companies, the person said. Iltgen published a research note that showed the company could lose a significant portion of its critical Apple business by 2019 as the iPhone maker moves some of its computer chip production in-house.

Apple's custom engineering saw it launch 64-bit chips ahead of the competition and its current mobile chips mean that the iPhone and iPad outstrip all of the Android competitors in most performance benchmarks.

Tech stocks were the biggest sectoral losers, down 0.8 per cent after Dialog Semiconductor dropped 18.4 per cent. Its plans to buy US -based Atmel in 2015 were derailed after Microchip swooped in with a higher bid.

This would be the second supplier which Apple has spectacularly knifed.

These single chip arrangements make use of optimized power consumption technology and give a basic, yet adaptable, plan at a lower cost.

The new chip is being developed by Apple in California and Munich, according to the research.

Shares in highly diversified chipmaker STMicro, which analysts believe supplies light sensors for iPhones, fell 3.6 percent, weighing on the benchmark STOXX Europe 600 Technology.SX8P index, which was down 1.5 percent.
