Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk”

"After the addition of new 707-horsepower Trackhawk, Jeep Grand Cherokee is going to prove the most powerful and quickest SUV", said Mike Manley, head of Jeep brand at FCA.

It's the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, due to make its world debut at the NY motor show on 14 April and, in concept, it's quite simple.

With Jeep's off-road tradition, a hyper-powered asphalt-capable Grand Cherokee might not be an obvious move, but we love the Hellcat engine and previous Grand Cherokee SRTs have been incredible machines, so we can't wait to give this one a try. Anyways, Jeep further states the Trackhawk will finish the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds at a trap speed of 180 miles per hour (290 kph) - or tow up to 7,200 pounds (3,266 kilograms).

It's been the subject of rumors for years, but on Sunday Jeep finally revealed the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

The V8 generates 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque, and it spins all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission controlled by shift paddles. Naturally, there are paddle shifters, and the normal half-second shift time can be trimmed to a quarter-second in the Sport dynamic driving mode and to just 160 milliseconds in Track mode. It gets a stronger driveshaft which connects to a new and stronger rear axle, the Trackhawk, with a bunch of other stronger nuts and bolts in between. This, according to Fiat Chrysler Auto, is the quickest, most powerful standard production SUV on the planet. Other standard features include adaptive cruise control, advanced brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross path detection, forward collision warning with crash mitigation, front and rear park assist, and lane departure warning.

Brembo brakes are another upgrade for the Trackhawk, with 15.75-inch rotors on the front and 13.78-inches on the back. Also present are the 7-inch driver information display on the instrument panel and the 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment called Uconnect.

While its horsepower stats are an anomaly in the SUV segment, the Trackhawk is not alone in offering surprising performance.

If it succeeds, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will cost more than $100,000, given the 344kW 6.4-litre SRT - the performance leader of the facelifted Grand Cherokee on sale from this month, costs $91,000.

Twenty-inch wheels are standard, with a satin chrome center cap; optional low-gloss black alloy wheels are 12 pounds lighter. Each front door gets a "Supercharged" badge, and the hatch gets a "Trackhawk" badge.

Over the current performance flagship, the SRT, the Trackhawk increases lateral g-force from 0.87 to 0.88g thanks to nine per cent stiffer springs and different Bilstein damper settings.
