Arsenal would sell Sanchez to Chelsea, maintains Merson

Arsenal are determined not to approve a sale to a Premier League rival, having seen a wealth of their top stars move across England in recent years, but risk losing Alexis on a free transfer next summer if they don't approve a sale at the end of the season.

Antonio Conte has again insisted it would be "disrespectful" to both Arsenal and his players to discuss the possibility of bringing Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea.

Speaking to Sporting Life about Sanchez's future at the west London club, former Arsenal midfielder Merson urged Chelsea to sell Hazard for £100m and sign Sanchez in £50m deal.

Arsenal are being linked with a move to sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid this summer, while Alexis Sanchez looks destined to quit the club.

Conte was asked about whether himself or anyone at Chelsea has received an indication that Sanchez would be keen on a switch to the Blues this summer.

'He has a one and a half year contract, ' said the Arsenal manager.

"I definitely think Sanchez could be a Chelsea player next season".

"I don't know if Victor Moses will be available", he said. By then, though, we may see other top clubs arrive and stake a claim in the transfer battle to land Alexis Sanchez. "It's awful how Arsenal can let a player of that talent run the years down on his contract".

"Folks say, "Oh well, they won't sell to Chelsea", however they sold Robin van Persie to Manchester United so they won't be fussed about that". But with Alexis' contract entering its a year ago, their hands may be tied.

Sanchez can play as a central striker, but he would be at his best playing in one of the three forward roles supporting Harry Kane, especially the wide areas Spurs have had trouble filling.
