Derrick Rose to have knee surgery again, miss rest of season”

Derrick Rose's season and presumably his New York Knicks career seem to be over thanks to a torn meniscus.

Those close to Rose expect him to be at full health two months after the surgery, which will be scheduled shortly. Rose has missed the past two games with what had been termed a sore left knee.

The point guard has a long history of sabotaging knee injuries, but the timing of his latest could not be worse for his financial future.

Rose's most serious injury came in April 2012 when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee near the end of Chicago's playoff opener. He expected to return to the court shortly. Prior to the injury, the Knicks hadn't ruled out the possibility of bringing Rose back for next season, according to sources.

Knicks president Phil Jackson acquired Rose in a trade with the Bulls that also netted Justin Holiday.

The inability to stay healthy forced the Bulls to deal Rose to the Knicks during the 2016 draft.

Rose also possesses an expiring contract that will make him an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Rose, who has been out of action since March 27, played well for the Knicks in his first season in NY, averaging 18.0 points and 4.4 assists per game, even if his three-point shooting percentage was down compared to past seasons.
