Reporters Confront Spicer Over Devin Nunes on White House Grounds”

"Now, a Nunes spokesman says the Republican did meet with his source on the White House grounds".

"The chairman is extremely concerned by the possible improper unmasking of names of USA citizens, and he began looking into this issue even before President Trump tweeted his assertion that Trump Tower had been wiretapped", Langer said. Langer said that Nunes also met an unidentified source on the White House grounds.

A mystery rooted in President Donald Trump's claim that he was wiretapped by then President Barack Obama during the 2016 election campaign deepened on Monday with the disclosure that a top congressional Republican reviewed classified information about the charge on the White House grounds.

The chairman then went to the White House to brief the president on his findings, leaving fellow committee members out of the loop.

Nunes was asked if the information he shared came directly from the White House, which he would not confirm or deny, stressing that "we have to keep our sources and methods here very, very quiet".

In this case, Nunes had been hearing for more than a month about intelligence reports that included details on the Trump transition team, and had been trying to view them himself.

Some Democrats have said Nunes' actions mean he can't conduct an impartial investigation into potential Trump-Russia ties, though House Speaker Paul Ryan said Monday he has "full confidence" Nunes can oversee the probe.

Rebecca Glover Watkins, a spokeswoman for Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr, said that Kushner has been called to testify.

Nunes reiterated that in an interview with Bloomberg on Monday: "We don't have networked access to these kinds of reports in Congress", Nunes said, referring to the executive branch reports he says he obtained from an intelligence official.

In a separate development, Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, a top White House adviser, has volunteered to testify before the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation into whether Russian Federation attempted to interfere in the November 8 U.S. election, a White House spokesman said. Week ahead: House Intel chair under fire over Trump surveillance claims Schiff: Nunes needs to decide if he wants to lead a credible investigation on Russia MORE (D-Calif.). Though Nunes says the reports he viewed had nothing to do with Russian Federation.

The objective of Nunes' trip to the White House grounds was, he said, to view the information he obtained in a secure setting. "The American people deserve a thorough, bipartisan and independent investigation of Russia's connections with the Trump campaign and their attempts to influence our elections".

Nunes did that before informing committee Democrats, angering members of the panel and prompting a closed-door apology from the chairman on Thursday. Nunes told me that he expects that his committee's members, including Democrats, will be able to read these documents themselves at secure locations outside of Congress as soon as this week. Schiff is one of several voices on Capitol Hill calling for an independent investigation of Russian intrusion in the 2016 USA presidential election. The second is about whether the Obama White House inappropriately spied on Mr. Trump and his advisers during the transition to power.
