National Football League approves Raiders' move to Las Vegas; Eagles to visit in 2021

National Football League approves Raiders' move to Las Vegas; Eagles to visit in 2021”

The Raiders will play the 2017 season in Oakland, with a timetable on the move not confirmed.

Roughly sometime between 10:00am to 12:00pm PST, NFL Owners are expected to vote on Mark Davis' proposal to relocate the team to Las Vegas.

"If the Raiders do leave, it'd be sad, because it's a great atmosphere, especially when they're winning, like the team we saw previous year". The move won't be immediate, however, and the Raiders are expected to spend two more seasons in Oakland before making the move (which isn't exactly optimal from a PR and ticket sales standpoint, I'm sure).

"This press conference is the last chance to show owners that there is tremendous public support for keeping the Raiders in Oakland", said Ray Bobbitt, founder of the Oakland Economic Impact and Legal Action Committee.

The Raiders are sticking around for at least two more years, and possible a third before moving to Las Vegas. Atlanta's stadium, which will open this season, is scheduled to host Super Bowl LII in 2019, and Los Angeles is inked in for Super Bowl LV in 2021, a year after the game is hosted by Miami a record 11 time. However, the Raiders won't be moving immediately. The Raiders moved into Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and gave the city a championship after the 1983 season.

"I love Oakland, I love the fans in Oakland and I know that there's going to be disappointment and maybe some anger", he said.

And more and more, it looks like that will be reflected in the necessary votes needed for the Raiders to start their new life in Las Vegas.

The Raiders had joined forces with the Chargers in 2015 in an attempt to build a stadium in Carson. Alternatively, Oakland fans can request and refund and move on, just as the Raiders have. With a pair of one-year leases remaining on Oakland Coliseum, Raiders owner Mark Davis said the team plans to play in Oakland for the 2017 season and the 2018 season.

On Friday, the mayor, Libby Schaaf, shared details with the National Football League of Oakland's plans for the first time - which included a $1.3 billion stadium on the current Oakland Coliseum (their spelling, not ours) site - and vowed that she and the city were doing all they could to keep the team.

That, he continued, is why the fire to keep the Raiders there has always burned brighter than through all the A's often-parallel battles for a new stadium or new plan for the O.co Coliseum they've shared with the Raiders since 1966. "I'd be remiss if I didn't do everything in my power to make the case for Oakland up until the very end". About $750 million of the planned $1.7 billion domed stadium will be financed with public funds.

It wasn't long ago that Las Vegas was considered an impossible destination for major sports franchises, given the NFL and other leagues' staunch opposition to legalized sports gambling. Specifically, Goodell wants to add a "play clock" after touchdowns and extra points to ensure games resume in a timely fashion.
