Until Trump Decides Otherwise, A Bloc Of House Conservatives Now Controls Government”

The House Freedom Caucus is known for things like this, and threats as well as trying to force them to do something will not get them on your side at all.

The GOP legislation was on the brink hours before Republican leaders planned to put it on the House floor for a showdown vote.

It was their uniting message on health care - a rallying cry around which they would win back power. Meadows admitted he's done some "self-critiquing" lately, but said this isn't the end of the debate.

President Donald Trump was not very happy with the new GOP healthcare bill failing, but now he seems to be on a rampage attacking just about anyone connected to the failure of the bill.

It was Representative Mark Meadows, the leader of this group, that Trump threatened - jokingly, the White House added later - to come after during a closed-door meeting with Republican lawmakers earlier in the week.

Speaking to members of the conservative Freedom Caucus mid-day Thursday, Trump is pitching concessions to representatives who want to limit the requirement for health plans to include benefits including substance abuse and maternity care.

These members can hardly be called liberals, but their middle-of-the-road politics have made them a dying breed.

Instead, the anniversary turned into bitter irony for the GOP, as C-SPAN filled up the time as the House recessed and lawmakers negotiated by playing footage of Obama signing the Affordable Care Act. The House of Representatives knew this, which is why they had to unite in order for it to go through. If people had doubted the Freedom Caucus would remain an influential force under President Donald Trump, there was no questioning now their ability to exercise enormous influence over not only their leadership's agenda but their new president's as well. "I have one vote".

One member of the caucus, Rep.

Two dozen or so Freedom Caucus members have opposed the legislation pushed by GOP leaders, saying it doesn't go far enough to repeal "Obamacare". So he could conceivably get the votes he needs by winning over, say, the Freedom Caucus - and then going after some these other lawmakers.

However, practically everybody in official Washington is being accused of being at fault - from the caucus for its ideological purity, to Ryan for his inability to get the votes to President Trump for failing to deliver with his vaunted deal-making skills.

"No, I'm not betrayed".

It should certainly not be surprising that the House Freedom Caucus held to their guns on the situation, as they have been known for this. Congressional Republicans have no interest in direct federal spending on infrastructure, and if Trump has broken with them, they may find themselves disinclined to help him. He has gone after them publicly numerous times over the past few days.
