Utah jobless rate remains at 3.1 percent

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the state gained 4,400 private sector jobs last month.

In February, the national jobless rate was 4.7 percent, down from 4.8 percent in January.

The Labor Department originally reported that Connecticut's economy had added 5,700 jobs that month, but on Thursday, officials with the agency another 800 jobs to that total.

That's slightly lower than the national unemployment rate of 4.7 percent.

Private sector employment declined in February, with the biggest decline coming from the leisure and hospitality industry, which had 3,200 fewer jobs.

The registered jobless rate dropped to 8.5 percent in February from 8.6 percent in January. Shelby County is lowest at 4.5 percent followed by Madison County at 5.2 percent.

IN experienced a gain of 4,400 private sector jobs over the month primarily due to gains in the Manufacturing (4,200) and Trade, Transportation & Utilities (2,300) sectors.

Employers in education and health services led the hiring in February, adding 6,300 jobs over the month.

Other sectors experienced declines.

Both initial claims and weeks claims increased by 194 or 18% and 1,577 or 24.1% respectively for unemployment benefits compared to one year ago. The state's labor force grew by 12,480 to 5.01 million.

"Having the fourth lowest unemployment rate in the state means that 155 counties have higher unemployment rates than Cherokee County".

In a separate measure of employment, total nonagricultural jobs increased over-the-month by 500 jobs. Since Governor McAuliffe entered office, Virginia has added 191,600 net new jobs. Although manufacturing jobs increased by 1,700 in February, employment is down in that sector by 7,400 compared to a year ago and there are 297,800 fewer jobs than there were in September 2000, IDES Director Jeff Mays noted in a press release.

As unemployment rates rose in metro Atlanta, figures show the number of employed residents and those who are unemployed and actively looking for work decreased by 1,171 to 2,983,456 in January.

The unemployment rate in OH rose in every county between December of previous year and January of 2017.

Data is seasonally adjusted, but the formula does not account for all variations.
